Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii
Reaches Out to the Community
November 18, 2013
The
mission of Prevent Child Abuse Hawaii is to prevent child abuse through
education, public awareness and advocacy, which promote positive parenting and
healthy families, where children are valued and loved. We have been out in the
community doing a lot of educational and public awareness activities recently.
Prevent
Child Abuse Hawaii, Hawaii Children’s Trust Fund and Aloha Pono Lions Club are
all focusing on family strengthening currently and we have a unique opportunity
to work together this year to showcase all our services and distribute educational
materials at many different venues.
At
the Children and Youth Day at the State Capitol on October 6, Prevent Child
Abuse Hawaii partnered with the Hawaii Children’s Trust Fund which was a major
sponsor for the event. Over 35,000 attendees including exhibitors spread across
three different exhibition areas presented activities for children of all ages.
Families visited our booth with the
Hawaii Children’s Trust Fund and picked up information for family activities
and prevention of child abuse and neglect. Thanks to the Lucoral Museum, families were also
able to take their photos with colorful Taiwanese Techno God costumes; children
were given free semi-precious gemstones and crafted paper kites and lanterns. Special thanks go out to the many volunteers
and especially board member Chet Adessa, the Hawaii Children’s Trust Fund
Advisory Committee, Leos from various high schools and the Lurcoral Museum.
Prevent
Child Abuse Hawaii partnered with the Aloha Pono Lions Club and Hawaii’s
beautiful title holders to present educational exhibits on October 12 and 13 at
the Oh Baby! Family Expo Expo at the Neal Blaisdell Center. Responsible for the popular and fun infant
and toddler play area, we also distributed information on parenting, child
abuse prevention, family activities and our services to the participants at the
event. Special thanks to the Aloha Pono Lions Club, Mike Casciato and Hawaii
title holders for their help as volunteers at the event.
We
followed that up with another educational booth at the Hispanic Heritage
Festival & Health Fair at Kapiolani Park Bandstand in Waikiki on October 26.
Hundreds of very enthusiastic attendees came to the event. Many were very interested in our organization
and our educational materials. Mahalo and congratulations to board member Nancy
Ortiz who organized this very successful event.
Thanks
again to the many volunteers who make it possible to reach out to the public
with our educational materials to prevent child abuse and neglect by
strengthening families.
